19-DAYS MAKALU BASE CAMP TREKKING

Details

Day  01:

Fly to Tumlingtar, have lunch in the shade of Kabra Trees. Walk north towards Khandbari after lunch, for about 3 to 4 hrs, walk on a plateau for about 45 minutes starts climbing gradually for about 2.30 hrs. to reach Khandbari. Camp. above the village on large grassy field.

Day 02:

After breakfast walk through many small picturesque villages Walk for about 3 hrs. to have lunch at Goure. Start climbing for about 2.30 hrs. to camp at Gongane.

Day 03:

Start in the morning with views of snow capped peaks in a short distance. Wonderful view of Makalu and its surrounding peaks. Walk on a straight path with little ups and downs, through forest for about 2 hrs. Lunch served. Start descending walk for about 30 minutes to reach Num camp near school. This village is inhabited by Chetteries. Overnight at Tented Camp.
Day 04:

Walk steep downhill to reach the Arun river and cross the bridege. Ascend for about 2.30 to 3 hrs. to have lunch at Gadhi, which is also a police check-post after steep uphill walk for about 2 hrs, arrive to camp at Uling. A small stream separates Uling from Ala. Both the villages are inhabited by Rais. Over night at Tented Camp.
Day 05:

Walk through Ala, a picturesque Rai village for about 15 minutes. Then start descending steeply to the river, Kastwa. Cross the river by a small bridge and ascend steep uphill for about 1 hrs. to have lunch on the top of waterfall (time from uling 2.30 hrs.) After lunch walk steep uphill through Sherpa villages for about 2 hrs. to camp at Bumgkim. Overnight at Tented Camp.
Day 06:

Walk from Bumgkim to Utise for about 2.30 hrs, going at first through Tashigaon, a Sherpa villae, after which go through forest to camp at Utise, except at Khongma which is a day away from utise. Overnight at Tented Camp.
Day 07:

After breakfast walk steep uphill for 30 mimutes and arrive Utise continue walk through forests of rhododendrons and magnolias to Khongma gaon via Danda Kharka, Dunge Kharka and Usha Asha through alpine meadows (time from utise to Khongma Gaon is about 2.30 hrs.)
Day 08:

From Khongma walk through snow to Chamgse Danda, time about 1.30 hrs. From Chamgse Danda a close up view of Makalu as well as the surrounding Himalayas. Cross Barun Pass and camp below Makalu Base Camp.
Day 09 to 11: Excursion in Makalu Base Camp Area
Day 12: Cross Barun Pas and Camp below.
Day 13: Retrace for camp at Khongma
Day 14: Lunch stop at Utise and overnight at Nabhagaon
Day 15: Camp at Hum Village.
Day 16: Camp at Bhote bass.
Day 17: Camp at Kharbanri.
Day 18: Trek early to Tumlingtar and fly to Kathmandu by Chartered. Twin Otter.
Day 19: One day reserve on request at any place.
