  Upper Dolpa Camping Trek

Dolpa is located in the Shay-Phoksundo National park of mid- western Nepal, behind the Mt. Dhaulagiri Massif, towards the Tibetan plateau, cut off by a series of very high passes and closed by the snow most of the year. Dolpa remains a truly isolated corner of Nepal. Time has stood still here for centuries as inhabitants of Tibetan stock continue to live, cultivate and trade the way they have done since time immemorial.

The finally preserved ecosystem encompasses a wild and wonderful variety of plants,colorful of butterflies and wildlife, including the blue sheep and snow leopard and magnificent views including MT. Dhaulagiri(8167m.). A trek through Dolpa is an experience not easily forgotten for instance an enchanting trek in this region by Peter Matthiessen gave birth to his masterpiece “Snow Leopards”, a spiritual novel and one of the best sellers. A trek of this region is recommended for groups.

Isolated until 1989, the Dolpo area is hard to match for its surreal beauty and stunning charm. Situated at the rain-shadowed side of the Himalaya, the rugged scenery shows dramatic views, compared to similar altitude elsewhere in the kingdom. There are no lush green hills fed by monsoon but a thrilling hardcore landscape, guarded by impressive peaks, striving for heaven. The Dolpo region offers visit to ancient and isolated villages, immortal to time. It provides you with sites of spectacular lakes, authentic Buddhist monasteries and plentiful wildlife (including Blue sheep, mountain goat, jackal, wolf and snow leopard). In case you are seeking for some overwhelming and impressive panorama, Dolpo won’t disappoint you.

Days 01 : Fly to Nepalganj, overnight at hotel

Days 02 : Fly to Juphal and start trek to Dunai, overnight at tented camp.

Days 03 : Trek to Hanke Check Post, overnight at tented camp.

Days 04 : Trek to Sumdo, overnight at tented camp.

Days 05 : Trek to Shey - Phoksundo Lake), overnight at tented camp.

Days 06 : Rest and explore around Shey - Phoksundo Lake and villages inhabited by Bon and Buddhist settlers, overnight at tented camp.

Days 07 : Trek to Silver Forest, overnight at tented camp.

Days 08 : Trek to Ngondala (Seula Bhanjyang Base Camp), overnight at tented camp.

Days 09 : Trek to Shey Gompa, overnight at tented camp.

Days 10 : Rest at Shey Gompa, overnight at tented camp.
